Root Canals in Memphis
Root canals have a bad reputation among the general public, but patients who come to Dr. Boucek know that the myth is just that, a myth. We use every measure to ensure your complete comfort and satisfaction. With decades of experience, you can be confident that your root canal with us, will not set you back.
Cracked, Broken, Or Infected Teeth
Dentists need to be experienced when deciding on a root canal vs another procedure. When an infection or disease reaches the inside of the tooth, or the nerve just under the tooth, a root canal may be necessary. Trauma due to an accident, cracked or broken teeth, can also warrant a root canal. Anything causing regular pain or discomfort in a tooth can often be resolved with this procedure.
About The Procedure
During the root canal, Dr. Boucek will first use a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding area. Nitrous sedation is also available for this procedure. Next, we will remove the tissue in the center of the tooth, and the nerve within and underneath the tooth. This is done by drilling through the infected or injured tooth. Once the damaged tissue and nerve has been removed, the hole is filled with a composite material, and the tooth is capped with a crown, bringing back the proper form and function of the tooth.
Post Operative Treatment
Numbness from the anesthetic can last 2 to 4 hours after the procedure. If you chose to receive Nitrous Oxide sedation, you will feel light headed after the operation for several hours as well. We will write a prescription for antibiotics to prevent infection, and you will also receive a prescription for painkillers to relieve any postoperative discomfort that can occur.
We will give you postoperative instructions to follow as well. If these instructions are followed, and general oral health is maintained, a follow up is not typically necessary. A root canal from Dr Boucek will relieve pain, and bring the tooth back to good health.
Root canals are not the only solution if you’re experience pain, however. Especially for young adults, teeth can get overcrowded due to wisdom teeth growing in. That’s why we also offer wisdom teeth extraction procedures.
